There are differences between a male and female muscle structure, but heart and lungs are the same and it is possible to train in similar ways for certain types of exercise. Endurance atheletes are of similar or have even better levels of fitness in women than men, the differences in speed are to do with muscle strength and not levels of fitness nor indeed mental determination.

Weight training and body building in women will never compete evenly with men due to the whole physical differences in frame and muscles.

Womens fitness levels should also take age into account as it is well known that puberty is recessed with high levels of physical activity. Young female gymnasts are a prime example as they are started so early at achieving very high levels of regular strenuous exercise.
