Your
medical definition of Anaerobic Exercises in the
USA
Anaerobic exercises are
designed to build and tone muscles. They are not
the same as aerobic
exercises which build stamina and help lose
weight.

If you put a muscle under
stress, then some breakdown of the tissue takes
place. The amazing human body will then rebuild
those muscle fibres with bigger and stronger tissue.
This is a simplistic picture of how anaerobic
exercise works. A typical body builder will undertake
strength training anaerobic exercises repeatedly
breaking down tissue at the limit of the exercise,
then allowing the muscle to regrow as a bigger
better toned muscle set.
You should not exclusively
undertake anaerobic exercise without some aerobic
exercise as to do so could result in oversize
muscle groups and no decent circulatory or lung
capacity to cope with the extra demands.
Exercise should be a balance
for your body and not be driven by aesthetics.
Sadly, all too often, the demands on young people
for the perfect body outweigh commonsense.
Broadly speaking, aerobic
exercises can help more with weight loss - anaerobic
exercises help less (they tend to build muscle).
Examples are:
Weight lifting
Machines that offer resistance
Dumbbells
Anaerobic exercises use resistance
so that you will also be building muscle and bone
as an added benefit. Aerobic exercises will have
more of an impact on the cardiovascular and circulatory
system. Combining the two would give the greatest
health benefits.
